Background

Background

As a result of the Seminars in Philosophy and Cognitive Sciences at the UAEM—and the Symposia on Cognitive Sciences and Philosophy of Mind at the International Congress of the Philosophical Association of Mexico—which Juan González organized starting in 1999, the relevance of an international event dedicated exclusively to Cognitive Sciences, rooted in the Mexican context, became apparent. Thus, within the framework of the creation of the Master's Program in Cognitive Sciences at the UAEM (2009), the First International Colloquium on Cognitive Sciences was inaugurated in 2010 at the UAEM. This was an event with an interdisciplinary focus from the outset, and therefore, we extended an invitation to other colleagues and institutions to join the initiative and make it a multi-venue and inter-institutional event. Furthermore, the event was conceived as a biennial event, initially with a rotating schedule among the invited institutions.

Objetive

Objective

Cognitive Science (CS) focuses on the theoretical and experimental study of cognition (human and non-human) in all its manifestations. It is distinguished from other sciences by being an inter/transdisciplinary constellation whose objects of study are thematic and transversal to the participating disciplines. Classically, it includes Philosophy, Psychology, Neuroscience, Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Anthropology, and Cognitive Ethology, among others. In this context, the objectives of this 8th International Colloquium on Cognitive Science 2026* are:

  • To be a face-to-face academic meeting between diverse actors, disciplines and institutions involved in the CC, both from the country and from the international sphere;

  • To promote inter/transdisciplinary dialogue and conceptual exchange from the different perspectives involved (theoretical, experimental, phenomenological, applied, etc.);

  • To update knowledge and methodologies regarding cognitive sciences, and to disseminate research advances on cognition, with applications in different sectors of society;

  • Continue to consolidate this field of knowledge, with emphasis on Mexico and Latin America.

* This colloquium has only admitted speakers by invitation since its inception.
